To Be a Successful Trader, Don’t Be a Successful Trader (page 75)

red-leaf1Please find the following paragraph which describes about the balance in trader’s life, written by Jason Starzec & Mark Crisp in his book published on year 2003 How to become a Stress free Trader – the accidental discoveries of an applied behavioral science student”

“But what I am here to tell you is that you don’t want to be a trader. You want to be a successful trader. And in order to be a successful trader, you can’t be a trader (got it?)! What I mean is you need balance. Trading needs to be just one small thing on your plate. It needs to be the little dinner roll next to your steak, potatoes, corn and salad. It’s just one small part of the meal. Your plate needs balance!” (Starzec, pg 81)

“So it is no wonder that I firmly believe that balance is the catalyst necessary to become a successful trader. After reading Market Wizard (Schwager) I found that one common factor picked up on all the best traders was their ability to disassociate themselves with the market action. But one thing that I discovered over the years was that my success increased exponentially once I began to spend less time trying to control the market (by watching it every few minutes and trying to will it to go my way)” (Starzec, pg 80)

“Trading really is no different than any other aspect of your life. I know it sounds obvious but whenever you focus on only one thing in life, the other things seem to suffer. This is just common sense. If your total focus is on one point then the importance of every single little dip and peak becomes extremely exaggerated. This kind of peak and valley emotional trading will not only ruin your trading results but may in fact leave you destroyed as a person, too. In order to be a successful trader, you need to learn how to take time away from trading.  Remember, work hard and play hard …… not work hard and then work some more.” (Starzec, pg 83)
